Sunday 26th April

10am-12pm – Workshop 2: Al Andalus

Guy Schalom uncovers this beautiful yet often misunderstood style known as Muwashah.  Dating back to Medieval Spain (Al Andalus) this poetic form and its music were re-popularised by Mahmoud Reda in 1960s Egypt becoming an essential part of a dancer’s stage repertoire.  Accompanied by Ali Alassi.

12:30-2:30 – Workshop 3: Tarab

Guy Schalom leads you on a voyage of discovery and rediscovery of some of the most iconic yet challenging high-art songs in the modern Arabic dancer’s live music playlist.  Including detailed guidance on cultural and musical interpretation.  Accompanied by Ali Alassi.
