Guy Schalom & The Baladi Blues Ensemble |
|
Baladi
- the street music of
Egypt
- emerged in the early 20th Century through migration of rural musicians to the
cities of Cairo & Alexandria.
This “cultural collision” exposed traditional folk musicians
to a Western sensibility, creating a newly sophisticated hybrid genre.
Baladi holds improvisation and interplay at its core.
“Baladi
isn't just a dance style, it's a culture”
Hossam Ramzy
